Configuration

Every file format has a default configuration to ensure that a file can be translated; however, it does not handle every complex property that could be thrown your way when translating a source file. The default configuration for Adobe InDesign files does the following:

  • Extracts document properties for translation (i.e. document title, keywords, categories, etc.)

  • Extracts user comments for translation.

  • Extracts locked text-frames.

  • Extracts master pages.

  • Does not show leading and trailing whitespaces to the translator.

  • Does not show texts containing neither letters nor digits to the translator.

  • Ignores formatting changes applied to whitespaces.

  • Uses SRX Rules for text segmentation.

  • Always splits text at line breaks.

Configurations

If you are performing a code file translation, a custom file format configuration might be necessary to achieve the right results in your target file. Outside of the default configuration selections, Wordbee Translator offers many additional choices for configuring:

  • Not extract document properties, locked text-frames, or master pages.

  • Omit user comments from the translation.

  • Extract hidden text-frames.

  • Show leading and trailing whitespaces to the translator.

  • Show texts that do not contain letters nor digits to the translator.

  • Ignore formatting changes to texts that do not contain letters nor digits.

  • Omit styles from the translation.

  • Exclude content from the translation.

A Few Examples

The following are just a few examples of what you can do with a custom Adobe InDesign file configuration in Wordbee Translator. For more advanced examples, please see our Adobe InDesign Questions and Answers page.

Adobe InDesign Configuration Options

When setting up a file format configuration for Adobe InDesign Files, there are many options to choose from to ensure extraction is successful. The General Tab contains options for general content, styles to not translate, content exclusion, and text segmentation. The options are described in general below based on individual sections.

Content

This section contains options for content within the source file and may be used to:

  • Extract or exclude document properties for translation (document title, keywords, category etc.).

  • Extract or exclude user comments for translation.

  • Extract hidden text-frames.

  • Extract locked text-frames.

  • Extract master pages.

  • Show or not show leading and trailing whitespaces to the translator.

  • Show or not show texts containing neither letters nor digits to the translator.

  • Ignore formatting changes applied to whitespaces (such as a blank formatted in a different size than surrounding text).

  • Ignore formatting changes of texts containing neither letters nor digits.

Do Not Translate

This section may be used to enter specific styles within the source document that should be marked as non-translatable text in the document. Completely non-translatable paragraphs/cells will be ignored by the system.

Individual untranslatable words within a paragraph or cell are made read-only and cannot be modified by the translator. By default, none are defined for Adobe InDesign files.

Exclude Content

This option may be used to define content that should not be extracted for translation. For each piece of text (segments), the system looks for the texts or regular expression patterns entered in this section of the configuration.

If a text/pattern matches, then it is possible to mark the segment as either translatable or not translatable. The system checks one pattern after the other until one matches. Text that matches none of the patterns is considered translatable.

Text Segmentation

Enable/Disable SRX Rules for text segmentation and choose to always split text at line breaks.
