Machine Translation Settings

What is Machine Translation?

Machine translation (MT) is a sub-field of computational linguistics that investigates the use of software to translate text or speech from one language to another. Machine Translation should not be confused with computer-aided translation, machine-aided human translation or interactive translation.

Wordbee Translator integrates via API with 12 commercial MT systems and offers a special meta connector that lets you select for which language pair to use which MT profile. For example, you may use Google for certain languages and Microsoft for others.

NEW

As of October 2020, Wordbee Translator has added the Intento MT connector that gives one-stop access to a wide range of third-party machine translation systems. Intento provides a single interface to all those vendors and models. This way, Intento clients may evaluate all of them for their specific use. To sign-up, contact Intento at https://inten.to/.

The Machine Translation Settings may be used to configure which translation systems you want to use within Wordbee Translator. In Wordbee, you may use one or more Machine Translation Systems to produce a raw translation of your files, which you can then post-edit to acquire the desired quality level.

In Wordbee Translator, you have the option to use an existing translation memory and resource group to pre-translate your documents and then machine translation. The defined resources (i.e) translation memories will be used to initially pre-translate text. Then the machine translation system will be used to further pre-translate text, which may then be translated by a human or simply a machine translation (MT).

How to access the MT Settings

To enable, disable, or add a Machine Translation System in Wordbee Translator, you must first access these Settings within the system.

  1. Click on Settings at the top right of the screen.

  2. Use the search bar to quickly access the Machine Translation section.

  3. Go to Machine Translation systems and select Configure to open the list of available MT systems supported in Wordbee Translator. Here you will be able to view the Status of the available engines, their Languages, set the priority level for translation and configure their settings.

MT System Status

A machine translation system may be configured as follows:

  • Limited (default): Each MT system is limited by default. This configuration enables you to use MT suggestions in the Translation Editor. Batch translation is not possible.

  • Enabled (full feature set): This configuration requires appropriate credentials from the MT provider. You will be able to translate full documents with the enabled MT system and edit them in the Translation Editor.

  • Disabled: Use this option if you do not want to enable an MT system.

Having the Google MT enabled with limited access allows you to use MT combined with the Global Search.

MT system providers and their credential requirements

To enable the full feature set of one of the MT engines in the list, you first need to acquire valid credentials from the MT provider. The table below shows you how to get an API Key.
